Call for Proposals to Compile the Program of the Jubilee EEF is Open
The Organizational Committee for the preparation and running the Eastern Economic Forum is now welcoming proposals to compile the 5th Jubilee Eastern Economic Forum program.
‘Over the past 3 years the Forum has earned its reputation as a platform to discuss strategic issues of Russia’s integration into the Asia-Pacific space. We aspire to make this tool even more efficient for the Far East. We plan that next year the moderators will summarize the content of their section discussions to the President. The Forum will be designed so as to ensure immediate transition from discussion and wishes through analysis to taking government decisions’ – commented Yuriy Trutnev, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District and Chairman of the EEF Organizational Committee.
To quote Alexander Kozlov, the Minister for the Development of the Far East and Deputy Chairman of the EEF Organizational Committee, the Forum should bring maximum benefit to Russia and the Far Eastern Federal District. ‘This year the EEF was attended by 4 heads of state, including China’s President Xi Jinping. The benchmark we have set is very high and we do not intend to lower it. Our objective is to make the Forum increasingly interesting from year to year and thus it will yield tangible results for the development of the Far East’ – the minister said.
Russia’s Ministry for the Development of the Far East, the institutions responsible for the development of the region, including the Far East Agency for Investment Attraction and Export Support, the Corporation for the Development of the Far East, the Agency for Human Capital Development in the Far East are to submit their proposals concerning the agenda of the Forum. Initiatives from other federal ministries and agencies, industry associations and experts are also expected.
‘The Eastern Economic Forum has become a platform for signing investment contracts relevant to the Far East. I am convinced that next year the Forum will not be an exception. Our proposals will be focused on saturating the program with events where investors will be able to learn about the investment conditions in the Far East and to communicate with those who have already launched their projects and who have been working in the Far Eastern District’ – Leonid Petukhov, Director General of the Agency for Investment Attraction and Export Support, stated.
‘We expect the issue of human capital development to remain a priority on the agenda of the Jubilee EEF. At the 2019 Forum we will be able to join our efforts with the representatives of major companies of the Far East and educational institutions of the macro-region to discuss the implementation of the program aimed at training employees in accordance with the needs of employers, the changes in the labor market as well as necessary government support measures. The suggested format of the Forum envisages the formulation of the tasks on the basis of the panel discussions, which will increase the efficiency of the both participants and organizers’ – said Sergey Hovrat, Director of the Agency for Human Capital Development in the Far East.
In the opinion of Denis Tikhonov, Director General of the Corporation for the Development of the Far East, from its inception, the EEF became the flagship in shaping Russia’s economic policy in the east of the country. It is here that the investment activity of the region is measured whereas the practice of applying the regimes of territory of rapid economic development and free port is evaluated on the basis of the residents’ outcomes and new project starts’ – he highlighted.
The 5th Jubilee Eastern Economic Forum is to be held on September 4-6, 2019. The event will be traditionally hosted by Far-Eastern Federal University. The business community’s and political elite’s interest in the Forum is growing every year. Thus the program of the event is becoming more and more saturated. This year it has comprised over 100 business events.
The invitations to attend the 2019 Forum were stated by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin who invited entrepreneurs from South-East Asia to participate in the 2019 Jubilee Forum. This statement was made at the Russia-ASEAN plenary session. Last week Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s Prime-Minister, delivered a speech where he invited the APEC members to become better acquainted with the investment conditions offered in the Far East and to take part in the 5th Jubilee Forum. At the end of October Yuriy Trutnev, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation and Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District, invited top executives of major Japanese companies to take part in the Forum to be held in Vladivostok next year. This statement was made in Japan at the round table organized by the Agency for Investment Attraction and Export Support.
It should be reminded that the 4th Eastern Economic Forum resulted in signing 220 agreements, contracts, memorandums and protocols worth 3,185 bln rubles. This sum is 1.3 times higher than that achieved at the 2017 EEF. There were 58 agreements concluded with international and foreign companies. The most numerous delegations (by the number of government officials and business people) came from China (1096 delegates), Japan (570 delegates), South Korea (335 delegates) and well as Mongolia, the USA and the UK.
